CRICIETH
Cricieth
is a fine Victorian family resort with magnificent views of
Cardigan bay, the Llyn Peninsula with Snowdonia as an impressive
backdrop. The castle perched on a rocky outcrop at the town
is particularly interesting as it was built by the Welsh princess
and developed by Edward the 1st as part of his 'ring of steel'
series of castles. The castle has a fine museum, which caters
particularly well for children.
The
town itself has two beaches with the southern beach the most
popular having a public green behind it , which is ideal foe
picnics and ball games. Cricieth is also the home of Cadwalader's
ice-cream which draws locals and visitors in their thousands
each year. There is also a fine municipal playing complex in
the town with bowling greens, a miniature golf course and tennis
courts.
During
the summer months services are held on the beach near the Lifeboat
run which crosses the main road to the beach.
To
the west of Cricieth lies Llanystumdwy - the village where David
Lloyd George grew up and retired to. There is a good museum
to one of the architects of the modern world here as well as
his final resting-place by the river Dwyfor.
