Amlwch
On
the north-eastern point of Anglesey lies Amlwch port, which was
one of the islands busiest in the recent past. The town grew with
the development of copper mining on nearby Parys Mountain that
was the world's most productive copper mine in the world at one
stage. Amlwch also used to be famous for its tobacco production
- leaf tobacco was imported here and then shredded to produce
smoking tobacco for pipe smokers.
The
town itself has a sleepy air about it and is and ideal exploration
point for this side of the island.
